Victoria Falls

Not in the mood to go home yet? Don't mind a bit of action? Grade 4 and 5 on The Mighty Zambezi, a stylish 111 meters jump with a piece of bungee tied to your legs, Cessna flights and helicopters, horse rides in the bush, sunset cruises and hippo's; it is all possible.

A flight from Johannesburg will take us to Livingstone in Zambia, named after the legendary adventurer and missionary who discovered The Falls in 1855. Of course The Falls were already known to the local inhabitants, who gave it the appropriate name 'Mosi O Tunya', or 'Smoke of Thunder'. When it is high water, the falls plunge in full grandeur of 1.6 km into the Batoka Gorge, 100 meter below. A visit will guarantee you soaking clothes and a wet camera, but the result on film is amazing. These waterfalls are counted as one of The Seven World Wonders and deserve to be on every ones wanting list.

In 1905 a railway bridge was built across the Zambezi, connecting Zimbabwe and Zambia. Nowadays, people enjoy throwing themselves off that bridge with a piece of rubber and are even willing to pay for it. Because apart from natural beauty, Victoria Falls has developed into the biggest adrenaline pumping town in Africa. Most tourists now view The Falls from the micro light or helicopter and dare the Zambezi river in a raft, or even without and climb on a horse to track game. There are more activities than I can mention here. The only thing I can tell you is that they are all exiting and beautiful and the only limiting factor will be your wallet.
